自立合作社的主要目的是向有需要的学生提供有效的教育贷款，协助他们接受高等教育，其次是为马来西亚社区和国家培养训练有素的人力资源。
自 1981 年推出第一个计划, 即高等教育贷款计划以来，自立合作社已提供超过 12,300 名学生及 2.8 亿令吉的教育贷款，供他们在本地和海外进修。
自2012年起，自立合作社将其贷款计划多元化至商业贷款，例如微型贷款、杂货店转型计划 / 修车厂现代化计划、中小型企业贷款和中小微企业贷款。
